The method involves decomposing a field of vision in volume elements and axial sensors (6) in form of rectangular bars (7) in detection elements. A set of detection tubes is constructed, where each tube is extended in the field of vision between the detection elements of sensors. Each detection tube is associated to a core detection tube of a set of core detection tubes and to a core transformation of a set of core transformations, where the core transformation is settled such that each detection tube is an image of core detection tube by application of the core transformation. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for acquisition of data by a positron emission tomography system (2) a method for reconstructing a three-dimensional image with a positron emission tomography system (3) a computer program product recorded on a medium readably by an electronic processing unit comprising instructions to perform a method for characterizing a positron emission tomography system (4) a positron emission tomography system. |
