Method of manufacturing a wind turbine blade (10), in particular a method of joining components (110, 112) of a wind turbine blade (10). The method involves the use of an adhesive arrestor rail (126, 226, 326) positioned at the side of a joining surface (114) of a first member (112) of a wind turbine blade (10), the rail(126, 226, 326) arranged to form an acute angle to a second opposed joining surface (116) of a second member (110) of a wind turbine blade (10). The arrestor rail (126, 226, 326) acts to retain flowable adhesive (118) within the bonding area between two joining surfaces (114, 116), ensuring a full and complete bond is provided between the blade members (110, 112). The rail (126, 226, 326) provides a valve action, deflecting to allow for excess adhesive (118) to extrude past the rail (126, 226, 326), indicating that the bonding area between the joining surfaces (114,116) is filled with adhesive (118). Additionally, the angled arrangement of the arrestor rail (126, 226, 326) results in a tapering edge of the adhesive bond layer (128) between two members (110, 112), which has been found to provide a reduced likelihood of substantial crack formation in the adhesive bond layer (128). |
