The present invention relates to a cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and food compositions comprising veratric acid or a pharamaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient for improving skin condition. The composition of the present invention has an excellent effect on alleviating wrinkle by increasing collagen synthesis and inhibiting an activity of collagenase, an enzyme which degrades collagen. Moreover, in the case where ultraviolet is irradiated, the present invention increases an amount of collagen, which is reduced due to the ultraviolet, and inhibits the activity of collagenase, which is enhanced by ultraviolet, to thereby exhibit an excellent effect on alleviating wrinkle. In addition, the present invention facilitates proliferation of hair follicle dermal papilla cells and secretion of IGF-1, which is a hair growth factor, and inhibits synthesis of TGF-beta 1, which is a hair growth inhibiting factor, to thereby exhibit effects on hair growth facilitation and hair loss prevention. Further, since the composition of the present invention is derived from a plant, which is a natural product, the present invention is nontoxic to human body and has no side effect on skin. Therefore, the present invention can be safely applied to a cosmetic, pharmaceutical and food compositions. |
