The present invention relates to a sheet discriminating apparatus capable of discriminating the falsification and abnormality of a sheet having a magnetic component by electromagnetically heating the included magnetic component and detecting an area of the heated magnetic component about the sheet which includes a magnetic substance or has a pattern which is formed with magnetic ink. The present invention includes: a heating means which heats a magnetic area about a sheet which has the magnetic area including a magnetic component substance as a security element and a nonmagnetic area; a heat detecting means which detects the heated magnetic area of the sheet; a memory which previously stores information of a reference sheet which is necessary for discriminating the falsification and abnormality of the sheet; a control processing unit which discriminates the falsification or abnormality of the sheet by receiving a detection result which is detected by the heat detecting means and analyzing the detection result by comparing the detection result with reference sheet-related information which is stored in the memory; and an output means which outputs a result which is discriminated in the control processing unit.
