821,577. Batteries. CHLORIDE BATTERIES Ltd. March 11, 1958 [March 28, 1957; Sept. 30, 1957; Dec. 4, 1957], Nos. 10146/57, 30494/57 and 37803/57. Class 53. An accumulator plate comprises lead rods and active material enclosed in tubes consisting of woven, knitted or braided yarn made from a polyester resin of terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol. The yarn may be bulked yarn having a false twist. The tubes may be impregnated with a resin which is cured while the tubes are supported on a mandrel. The resin may be urea formaldehyde which is leached out when the plate is immersed in the accumulator acid. Each tube may be made individually, or a row of tubes may be produced in a single weaving operation, the tubes being interconnected by a small width of fabric. The two outer tubes forming the edges of the plate may be of a closer weave than the remaining tubes in order to reduce the porosity at the edges and so reduce the risk of short-circuits. |
