The method involves determining the residual range from a suitable estimated value for the fuel consumption and the still available fuel residual-quantity. The still available residual fuel-quantity is determined from the pressure and the temperature of the fuel stored in the tank. The pressure is detected by a pressure sensor provided upstream a pressure reducing device. The pressure reducing device is present in a fuel-supply line. The residual amount determined by the pressure-measurement value of the pressure sensor provided in the fuel-supply line downstream the pressure reducing device is used when it is greater than the residual amount determined by the pressure-measurement value of the pressure sensor.
