The lamp unit (2) has housing shell defining an interior space for containing light sources and associated light-guiding elements. The housing shell is made of thermoplastic plastic material and manufactured by an injection molding process. A transparent window portion (72) is formed in the housing shell. The light-guiding elements are formed in one-piece with the housing shell during injection molding process. The light guide element is formed with a coupling-out structure. A reflective layer is formed on the side opposite to the window portion of the surface portion of a covering shell. An independent claim is also included for a method for the manufacture of a housing element as a cover for a lamp unit.
