The security element has a dark substrate layer (22) which is arranged on a substrate (20). An optically variable color layer structure (24) is arranged over the substrate layer. First effect layer (26) of color layer structure formed on the substrate layer is incorporated by an external magnetic field of reversible alignable effect pigment. Second effect layer (28) represented as an optically variable layer is formed beside the first effect layer. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a method for manufacturing the optically variable security element; (2) the security arrangement; and (3) the data carrier.
