The method involves determining current velocity data of a vehicle (100) based on received speed data, and transmitting speed data to an vehicle onboard unit (10). A portion of the velocity data is acquired from a database (110) and an external database (12). The speed data is processed in an external central unit (11) before transmission. The speed data is compared with stored data in the external central unit. Probability determination is performed prior to transmission of speed data to the external central unit.
