The gripping wheels (10) are adapted to rotate in a first rotational direction when the contact plate (7) translates relative to the chassis (5) in a first axial direction and rotate in a second rotational direction when the contact plate (7) translates relative to the chassis (5) in a second axial direction. Rotation of the gripping wheels (10) in the first rotational direction engages the needle assembly (3) to the medicament delivery device (2), and rotation of the gripping wheels (10) in the second rotational direction disengages the needle assembly (3) from the medicament delivery device (2).
