Settlement device (10) for colonization of microorganisms for a biogas reactor, comprises at least one surface support structure (12) for providing at least one settlement area for colonization of microorganisms. The settlement device is stored or storable in the biogas reactor by a storage device (16). Independent claims are also included for: (1) a biogas reactor comprising a settling device; and (2) operating a biogas reactor, comprising feeding the biogas reactor with easily degradable substrate, and rotating a settlement device within the biogas reactor.
