IMMERSIBLE METHANE SENSORS

Immersible detection systems (100) and methods for using the same are provided for detecting the existence and concentration of methane gas in a fluid medium. The system comprises a radiation source (110) emitting at a methane absorption wavelength, a methane permeable membrane layer (130) which is e.g. water impermeable, a detector (120) as well as a signal process and control unit (150) connected to the detector to analyse the radiation to determine the concentration of methane in the fluid medium.
