摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress movement or uneven distribution of ionic impurities intruding into a liquid crystal layer 50 by energization, and to suppress occurrence of a display failure caused by the ionic impurities.SOLUTION: A liquid crystal device 100 includes a liquid crystal layer 50 held between an element substrate 10 having a plurality of pixel electrodes 9a formed on an interlayer insulating film 44 and a counter substrate 20 having a counter electrode 21 formed on an insulating film 22, and the device has a transmissive region to transmit light and a light-shielding region 7 to block light in a pixel region E where the plurality of pixel electrodes 9a are disposed. In the light-shielding region 7, a recess (dummy contact hole, recessed part 26) is formed in at least one of the interlayer insulating film 44 and the insulating film 22, and at least one of a surface of the element substrate 10 in contact with the liquid crystal layer 50 and a surface of the counter substrate 20 in contact with the liquid crystal layer 50 has a recess in a region corresponding to the above recessed part.
