The method involves irradiating the mirror face (3) of the heliostat (5) with a laser beam having a predetermined wavelength. Image data of the reflected laser beam (13a) consisting of two receiving directions is received, where the laser beam is scattered at the aerosols of the atmosphere and reflected by the mirror face. The receiving directions extend at an angle to each other. The angle of the receiving directions and the direction of the reflected laser beam are determined from the obtained image data. The position of the heliostat is detected from the direction of the reflected laser beam. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a method for regulating a drive of a heliostat having a mirror face; (2) a system for position- and orientation determination or for drive regulation of a heliostat having a mirror face; and (3) a drive system of a heliostat with a motor.
