The present invention provides a function whereby the arrangement of snapshot data in a pool is switched dynamically in response to the usage state of the pool. More specifically, the present invention provides a function whereby the storage mode applied to a pool is switched dynamically in response to the usage state of a pool. The switching is from a storage mode wherein the snapshot data is aggregated in a prescribed pool volume to a storage mode wherein the snapshot data is dispersed among multiple pool volumes, or from a storage mode wherein the snapshot data is dispersed among multiple pool volumes to a storage mode wherein the snapshot data is aggregated in a prescribed pool volume.
