The unit (10) has a differential gear (14) provided with a differential carrier (18), which is connected to a drive axle. First and second side shafts (30, 31) are rotatably and operatively connected to the drive axle. The first side shaft is provided with a transmission drive flange (32), and the second side shaft is provided with a gear remote output flange. The first side shaft is rotatably supported over a first roller bearing (34) in a gear housing (12) and a second roller bearing (36) i.e. needle bearing, in the differential carrier. An independent claim is also included for an axle drive unit.
