The battery (1) has rod cells (7) arranged in a plurality of rows next to one another, the end-side electrical contacts of which are each electrically connected to one another in parallel and in series by a common contact plate (16). A flat heat exchange pocket (19) through which a heat transfer medium can flow abuts against said contact plates (16) for effective cooling. This pocket consists of a multilayer thin film having an electrically insulating outer layer.
