Provided are: a wavelength conversion material having low toxicity and excellent chemical stability relative to ZnSe, CdS, and CdO, and in which the region of wavelengths that can be converted is wider on the long-wavelength side than ZnO:Zn; a substrate provided with a wavelength conversion function, having a film which includes the wavelength conversion material; a sealant for a solar cell including the wavelength conversion material; and a solar cell module provided with one or both of the sealant for a solar cell and a cover glass for a solar cell which comprises the substrate provided with a wavelength conversion function. A wavelength conversion material including a semiconductor material represented by the compositional formula (1-x)ZnO•x(ABO2)1/2 and having a wurtzite structure or a wurtzite superstructure. In the formula, A and B are elements which can constitute an ABO2-type complex oxide, A is an element having a +1 charge, B is an element having a +3 charge, and x is a numerical value from 0.01 to 0.99.
