A fitted kitchen is provided for use in areas prone to flooding and is designed to be less susceptible to water damage but which retains the appearance of more traditional kitchen units. The kitchen unit comprises a box frame formed of aluminium or steel with removable doors and panels formed of wood-based materials including MDF, chipboard or plywood. The metal framework comprises prefabricated gables 2 joined together by connecting rails 3-8. Each gable preferably includes a shelf support 13, a support leg 14 and a pair of rear connecting rails 3, 4 fixed to a wall. A front rail 7 attached to support legs may also be fixed to the floor. The doors 24 are preferably attached by a quick-release means and the panels 28 releasably attached to at least one end gable. Also disclosed is a removable cornet fillet 31 that is attached between two orthogonal gables. In the event of a flood, doors and panels can be easily removed leaving the water resistant carcass behind. |
