[Also in Group XXIX] .In order to retard the rotation of a rotary sewage distributer a wheel or roller 2 with peripheral bars 4 or studs is attached by a frame 5 to an arm 1 of the distributer, and the wheel is pulled over the ground 3. A pin 8 of the frame engages a sleeve 9 on a clamp 10, 12 and allows the wheel to adapt itself to unevenness of the ground. In Fig. 3 the wheel is hollow with a partition 15 and is partly filled with oil, granular material &c., which passes from one compartment 17 or 18 to the other as the wheel rotates. It may be divided into a larger number of compartments by radial divisions extending from its wall and partly filled with liquid &c. In a further embodiment the wheel is acted upon on each side by a friction pad carried on the frame.</p> |
