The present invention relates to an air conditioner for both cooling and heating which can prevent ice formation by two outdoor heat exchangers. The air conditioner includes an indoor heat exchanger fed with a refrigerant and heat-exchanged with the indoor air to be cooled or heated; a first outdoor heat exchanger fed with the refrigerant recovered by a return line from the indoor heat exchanger, and heat-exchanged with the outdoor air; a second outdoor heat exchanger placed to be brought into contact with the first outdoor heat exchanger; a solenoid valve branched from the return line as a branched line to bypass a part of the refrigerant supplied to the first outdoor heat exchanger via a first expansion valve, and selectively communicating with or interrupted from the second outdoor heat exchanger; a mixing unit mixing the refrigerant passing the first and second outdoor heat exchangers; and a three-way valve controlled to selectively expand or compress the refrigerant passing the mixing unit. The indoor heat exchanger is provided with an evaporator and a condenser, and a cutoff part controls to selectively communicate or interrupt the refrigerant passing the evaporator with the condenser. |
