PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain excellent optophysical property such as a high Abbe number in a middle-refractive-index material with a refractive index around 1.6 and to provide a material having excellent transparency. SOLUTION: The composition for the optical material comprises a compound (a) having one or more of groups selected among a group comprising an acryloyl group, a methacryloyl group, an allyl group, and a vinyl group, and one or moreβ-epithiopropyl groups in one molecule respectively, and a compound (b) having one or more thiol groups in one molecule. The material is produced by polymerizing and curing the composition for the optical material.
