Provided is a direct fountain coater (DF-coater) which can suppress an occurrence of density variation or unevenness in a coated surface of a substrate without adjusting a coating liquid curtain thickness. A direct fountain coater includes a direct fountain coater head (14) elongated along a width direction of a substrate to be coated, the direct fountain coater head having a coating material chamber (31) formed therein extending along a longitudinal direction thereof, a coating material (2) being supplied into the coating material chamber (31). The direct fountain coater head (14) includes a plurality of supply ports (30) disposed at intervals along the longitudinal direction and providing communication between an outer side of the DF coater head (14) and an inner side of the coating material chamber (31) and supply, into the coating material chamber (31), a diluent (3) that dilutes a density of the coating material (2) retained in the coating material chamber (31).
