Classes 20(4) and 87(1) [Also in Group VIII] A flooring panel comprises abutting blocks 1 of wood, cork, synthetic plastics, &c, providing a continuous flat underface and mounted on a flexible backing sheet 3 which has been impregnated with a rubber plastic, or bituminous material. The blocks may be interlocked by means of tongues 7 and grooves 8, or rabbets 9, or may have grooves connected by separate slats. Tongues and grooves may be provided also on the free edges of the panel. The blocks are secured to the backing sheet of roofing felt &c. by bitumen, phenolic or epoxide adhesives. In laying a floor, a coating of a bituminous emulsion containing a filler is applied to a concrete floor-bed or to a thin cement layer on the floor-bed, and the preformed panels are bedded on to this layer. The bituminous emulsion which preferably consists of a mixture of sand, cement, bitumen and water is applied in the consistency of a moble gel to a depth of about # inch. The Provisional Specification describes also a panel wherein the constituent blocks are not interlocked and wherein the blocks may be of thick linoleum.</p> |
