<p>A system and method for identifying a pollution source are provided. The method for identifying a pollution source comprises the steps of: installing a monitoring well in an area in which a pollution source is to be identified; allowing the monitoring well to sample underground water and analyze an underground water sample to monitor the pollution concentration of pollutants; allowing the monitoring well to measure and monitor an underground water level; and obtaining correlation between the pollution concentration and the underground water level to identify whether the area with the monitoring well installed therein is a pollution source. The system for identifying a pollution source comprises: a monitoring well installed in an area in which a pollution source is to be identified; a pollution concentration monitoring unit installed in the monitoring well to monitor the pollution concentration of pollutants in underground water; an underground water level monitoring unit installed in the monitoring well to measure and monitor an underground water level; and a pollution source identifying unit configured to obtain correlation between the pollution concentration received from the pollution concentration monitoring unit and the underground water level received from the underground water level monitoring unit to identify whether the area with the monitoring well installed therein is a pollution source. According to embodiments of the present invention, a pollution source in an underground water environment can be identified accurately and effectively by using hydrogeological characteristics in the underground water environment with low costs and manpower.
