The rotary vane vacuum pump has the vane shaft (5) mounted in a radial journal bearing. The inner surface of the bearing is cylindrical, but has recesses (30, 30', 30") spaced around it whose surfaces (41, 41', 41") are higher than the surface (42) of the remainder of the bearing.
