[Also in Group XXXIV] Needle rollers, between radial trunnion pins 24 and shaft - mounted bearing caps 26 of a Hooke's universal joint, are adapted to support centring thrust along the pins by the provision of inner and outer bearing surfaces which are coned over part or whole of their length, and needle rollers 25, 28 which are either cylindrical, or cylindrical and conical. In Fig. 3, rows of conical needles 28 and cylindrical needles 25 bear respectively on coned surfaces 27, 29, and cylindrical surfaces 24, 26 outside, as shown,. or inside the coned surfaces. In Fig.. 2, not shown, three rows of cylindrical needles engage wholly conical surfaces of equal conicity. The needles may be caged and alternately long and short. The bearings may be adjustable, have hardened inserts, offset grooves communicating with a lubricating bore, and a seal 30. |
