Class 100(2) A method of producing printing plates includes the steps of taking a metallic printing shell 10, applying a first adhesive layer 14 to the back of the shell, placing a sheet of plastic material 16 on the adhesive-coated shell, placing a sheet 18 of perforated light metal on the free side of the plastic material 16 with a second adhesive layer 20 therebetween and heating the assembled plate and compressing it in a press.. A thin layer of backing metal 12 is preferably first applied to the shell 10 to fill any irregularities therein. When the assembled and heated plate is compressed the plastic material, e.g. a thermoplastic material such as vinyl acetate-vinyl chloride, compensates for irregularities in the adjacent areas of the shell 10 and sheet 18 by passing into the perforations of the sheet 18 without weakening the remainder of the plastic sheet. Adhesion between the sheets 16 and 18 is also increased by the plastic material which passes into the perforations. The metal sheet 18 is preferably made of aluminium alloy. |
