PURPOSE: A mesoporous nickel-alumina zerogel catalyst based on nanocarbon particles as a mold, a method for preparing the same, and a method for preparing hydrogen gas are provided to improve the activity, porosity, reduction property, and active phase size of a catalyst. CONSTITUTION: A method for preparing a mesoporous nickel-alumina catalyst comprises the steps of: hydrating metal ions by dissolving an aluminum precursor and a nickel precursor into an alcohol solvent; uniformly dispersing nanocarbon particles having the average particle diameter of 10-50 nm into the solution; obtaining a hybrid gel by injecting an epoxide-based compound into the solution in order to generate hydroxide groups in the hydrated aluminum and nickel and condensing the hydrated aluminum and nickel; aging the hybrid gel at the room temperature; and drying and thermally treating the aged hybrid gel.
