A high damage tolerant aluminum-copper (Al-Cu) 2xxx-series alloy rolled product comprises 3.8-4.7 weight % copper (Cu); 1-1.6 weight % magnesium (Mg); 0.06-0.18 weight % zirconium (Zr); greater than 0-0.5 (preferably greater than 0.15-0.5) weight % manganese (Mn); less than 0.15 weight % chromium (Cr); at most0.15 weight % iron (Fe); at most0.15 weight % silicon (Si); and aluminum and incidental elements and impurities (balance). It also comprises Mn-containing dispersoids and Zr-containing dispersoids. It is in a T3 temper, particularly in a T39 or T351 temper condition. An Independent claim is also included for a method of producing a rolled high damage tolerant AA2xxx-series alloy product, comprising casting an ingot comprising the above composition; homogenizing and/or pre-heating the ingot after casting; hot rolling the ingot and optionally cold rolling into a rolled product; solution heat treating; quenching the heat-treated product; stretching in the quenched product; and naturally aging the rolled and heat-treated product to provide a T3 condition, particularly a T39 or T351 temper condition.
