The present invention relates to a method for producing terephthalic acid and a derivative thereof through a biological technique. More specifically, the present invention relates to a method for producing aromatic carboxylic acid using lignin as a raw material through chemical and biological conversion and then for producing terephthalic acid or a derivative thereof from the aromatic carboxylic acid through a biological technique. Terephthalic acid or a derivative thereof which can be widely used as a raw material of fiber and packing containers can be environmentally-friendly, have high-specificity, and be economically produced from reproducible lignin.
