A method for producing organo-smectite using a measured value for cation exchange capacity according to the present invention comprises the steps of: (a) measuring the cation exchange capacity (CEC) of smectite; (b) preparing tetravalent ammonium cation-containing compound solutions having different levels of concentration based on the measured value for CEC of the smectite; (c) reacting the tetravalent ammonium cation-containing compound solutions prepared in the step (b) with the smectite in ascending order of concentration until the concentration reaches a level in which a tetravalent ammonium cation-containing compound is initially generated in order to be remained in the solution without reacting with the smectite; and (d) separating the smectite that is substituted by a tetravalent ammonium cation in the tetravalent ammonium cation-containing compound solution having the concentration in which tetravalent ammonium cation-containing compound is initially generated in order to be remained in the solution without reacting with the smectite. By means of the production method of the present invention, an organic clay particle that is stable in heat and has excellent adhesion can be produced through a simple process of substituting a hydrophile smectite clay particle in order to become hydrophobic without a separated pre-treatment procedure. By means of the production method using a measured value of ion exchange capacity of the present invention, organo-smectite, in which a maximum quantity of tetravalent ammonium cations is substituted by means of a minimum quantity of tetravalent ammonium salts, can be produced. Moreover, by means of the production method of the present invention, CP-smectite, which is organic clay that can be variously utilized in high value-added enterprises through an economical method, can be produced. |
