FIELD: physics, computer engineering.SUBSTANCE: invention relates to image processing and particularly to encoding and decoding digital images and sequences of digital images. Disclosed is a method of encoding an image or a sequence of images generating a stream (F) of data comprising data representing at least one group of pixels in one of said images (IE). The method comprises the following steps: selecting (C1), for a group of pixels to be encoded, an initial partition of predetermined linear form, slicing (C2) said group of pixels to be encoded according to said selected initial partition, propagating (C2) said initial partition selected in said group of pixels to be encoded, until the latter is completely sliced into a plurality of partitions of predetermined form, selecting, for said sliced group of pixels, a predetermined order of passage of said partitions, predicting and encoding (C4) said partitions one after the other according to said selected order of passage.EFFECT: providing better adaptation of encoding to separate structures or details of an image.13 cl, 22 dwg |
