A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a common electrode which is formed on the first substrate, a pixel electrode which includes a plurality of branch units which are extended in one direction and overlaps the common electrode, and a shielding layer which partially overlaps a first branch unit corresponding to the edge of the pixel electrode. The display quality of the liquid crystal display device is improved by preventing an afterimage and minimizing a flicker by partially overlapping the branch unit of the pixel electrode.
