The present invention relates to a bench having a foldable backrest which automatically opens or closes the backrest by detecting an approach of a user. The bench having a seat board (1) and a backrest (2) includes a human body detecting sensor switch (10); a motor (21) provided in the seat board (1) and driven by the human body detecting sensor switch (10); a transmission part (22) having a pulley (221) and a wire (222) to transmit the driving force of the motor (21) to a hinge (23); the hinge (23) receiving the driving force from the transmission part (22) to pivotally open or close the foldable backrest (2); and a driving part (20) connected to the wire (222) of the transmission part (22) to prevent overload of the motor having a moving piece (2221) shifted by the movement of the wire, and first and second limit switches (24, 25) operated by the moving piece. |
