PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately preserve an inter-vehicle distance from a preceding vehicle at the time of takeoff on an inclined road, and assist a driver in composedly coping with such an event that the preceding vehicle slides down at the time of takeoff on an uphill road.SOLUTION: A travel control unit 11 recognizes a vehicle immediately preceding a self vehicle 1 on the basis of an image captured by an onboard camera 2, designates a target stop inter-vehicle distance Ls on the basis of a road gradient &thetas;hi outputted from a back-and-forth G sensor 17, and stops the self vehicle 1 at the target stop inter-vehicle distance Ls through throttle control and brake control. For re-takeoff, the travel control unit 11 implements throttle control so as to attain a target acceleration Gao designated based on the road gradient &thetas;hi, and thus allows the self vehicle 1 to take off. |
