PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical transmission system, an optical transmitter, an optical receiver, and optical transmission method, and an optical receiving method capable of suppressing influence of optical signal waveform deterioration due to a non-linear optical effect.SOLUTION: An optical transmitter (100) for generating an optical signal based on an input data string and sending the optical signal to an optical transmission line includes: an encoding part (110) for executing encoding processing for converting a plurality of pieces of first data information included in the input data string into a plurality of pieces of second data information expressed by symbols of which the generation probability follows Gaussian distribution; and a multiple part (120) for generating the optical signal by multiplying the plurality of pieces of second data information converted by the encoding part.
