PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique capable of reducing discomfort of a steering feeling while retaining steering stability in a configuration allowing selection of an assist mode.SOLUTION: An electric power steering apparatus comprises an electric motor imparting an assist power for operation of a steering wheel arranged in a vehicle, a change-over switch receiving switches among a plurality of assist modes exerting mutually different assist powers by an electric motor and a target current calculation portion setting a target current to be supplied to the electric motor. The target current calculation portion has a plurality of control maps for setting a target current to be supplied to the electric motor and corresponding to individual assist modes, and, when the change-over switch receives a switch of the assist mode, switches the control map from a control map corresponding to an assist mode before switching to another control map corresponding to an assist mode after switching and modifies the time for switching the control map according to the speed of the vehicle. |
