PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the need for modification that may be required on an end host when data is multicast.SOLUTION: A network switch 4 associates a multicast address with a unicast address to store these addresses. The multicast address is used for multicasting data to end hosts 6-8 that are destinations of the transmitted data while the unicast address is used for transmitting data only to the end host 6. Upon receiving data with a multicast address that is assigned to transmission destinations including the end host 6, the network switch 4 changes the address of the data from the multicast address to a unicast address of the end host 6. The network switch 4 then transfers the data with an address changed from the multicast address to the unicast address to the end host 6 that is directly connected thereto.
