PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique capable of performing an update process with increased efficiency.SOLUTION: One (e.g., apparatus AR1) of image forming apparatuses AR1, AR2, and AR3 that are logically connected to a plurality of layers in a hierarchical structure obtains extra processing capacity of each of slave apparatuses (e.g., apparatuses AR21 and AR22) which are a plurality of image forming apparatuses located immediately below the image forming apparatus in the hierarchy. The image forming apparatus determines a distribution order for a plurality of slave apparatuses on the basis of the extra processing capacity (e.g., 60% and 30%) of the slave apparatuses, and transmits update data to the plurality of slave apparatuses in accordance with the distribution order.
