PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a perpendicular magnetic write head having a hull-shaped stitched pole.SOLUTION: A magnetic write head comprises a stitched magnetic pole (also referred to as a shaping layer) for conducting magnetic flux to a tip portion of a magnetic write pole. The stitched magnetic pole is shaped to be thicker in a central region that is aligned with the tip of the write pole and is thinner at its outer sides. This shape allows magnetic flux to be conducted to the tip portion of the write pole while maintaining sufficient pole surface area for high data rate recording.
