PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for a tread capable of improving fuel consumption property, wet grip performance and abrasion resistance in a good balance and to provide a pneumatic tire.SOLUTION: A rubber composition for a tread contains 100 pts.mass of a rubber component obtained by reacting 0.01 to 20 mass% of a compound of the formula (II) to one terminal of a conjugated diene-based polymer based on a conjugated diene and a compound of the formula (I) in 100 mass% of the rubber component, 5 to 150 pts.mass of silica and 1 to 30 pts.mass of resin having the softening point of 60 to 120°C.
