PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface treatment method by friction stir processing that can efficiently perform processing treatment of a material to be treated and gives a sufficient hardness on the surface of the material to be treated and to provide a shoe for caterpillar band manufactured by the method.SOLUTION: In the surface treatment method by friction stir processing comprising moving a tool 35 while rotating in a state that the tool 35 is pressed against a material 30 to be treated and giving frictional heat to the material 30 to be treated to perform the processing of the surface, the method includes a heat insulating part formation step for forming a groove part 32 along a face 31 to be processed of the surfaces of the material 30 to be treated where the processing by the tool 35 is performed and a processing step for translating the tool 35 along the groove part 32 formed in the heat insulating part formation step while rotating in a state the tool 35 is pressed against the surface 31 to be processed and processing the face of both sides sandwiching the groove 32 of the face 31 to be processed. The material 30 to be treated is composed of a shoe 17, an idler 13, a lower roller 15a, an upper roller 15b, side cutters 27a, 27b, and teeth 28a-28e. |
