PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a side weir and an operation method of a both-drum type continuous casting machine having the same, capable of preventing the formation of bullion, without using a device such as a heater.SOLUTION: A side weir 14 comprises a side weir holder 31, a heat insulation material 32 stored in the side weir holder 31 and a ceramic plate 33 provided on a surface of the heat insulation material, and assuming a heat flux of flowing in a side weir coagulation shell generated on a surface of the ceramic plate when starting pouring of molten steel into a molten metal gathering part from the molten steel 18 poured into the molten metal gathering part 16 as q, and a heat flux of flowing out to the side weir from the side weir coagulation shell as q, the heat insulation material is a construction material for satisfying a condition of qc-qs>0. A thickness of the ceramic plate is set in a thickness of remelting the side weir coagulation shell during time up to starting rotation of a cooling drum after starting pouring of the molten steel into the molten metal gathering part. The rotation of the cooling drum is started after remelting the side weir coagulation shell. |
