<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a density inversion character and a normal character from an original image at high speed.SOLUTION: An edge image generation unit 1 generates an edge image constituted of an edge detected from an original image; a linkage pixel extraction unit 2 extracts a linkage pixel group from inside the edge image; and a binary image generation unit 4 categorizes the linkage pixel group into linkage pixel groups having individual colors and generates character images having respective individual colors. Further, a background image generation unit 5 generates a background image of the original image on the basis of the character image. Further, an image compression unit 6 compresses the image data of the character image and that of the background image with mutually different compression schemes. Further, the binary image generation unit 4 identifies which of a density inversion character, a normal character and a non-character a linkage pixel group is, on the basis of brightness values of four apex pixels, in the original image, of a rectangle that circumscribes the linkage pixel group and generates a character image for the identified density inversion character and normal character.</p> |
