The present invention relates to a method for encoding an image and, more particularly, to a method for encoding an image, which includes the steps of: obtaining a plurality of motion vectors from an enhancement layer; calculating a partition function based on a deviation between the motion vectors; comparing a result value of the partition function with a threshold value; and determining whether a partition exists in a prediction unit according to the comparison result. Thus, it can be rapidly determined whether the partition exists in the enhancement layer, so that the coding can be more effectively performed.
