<p>A polymer-based composite sandwich includes a core (32) bonded between fiber reinforced resin facesheets (34, 36). The core (32) includes a truss formed by groups of composite pins (40) held in a low density foam (46). The pins (40) in each group intersect to form nodes adjacent to one of the facesheets (34, 36).
