The device (D) has an analysis unit (MA) calculating a new-validity threshold value based on a variation of position between a new-learned position and a new-average value from a learned position, a new-average value of position deviation and a value representative of a selected range of validity in an event of reception of the new-learned position. The analysis unit validates the new-learned position when the position deviation is low or equal to the calculated new-validity threshold value. An independent claim is also included for a method for analyzing a position learned from a licking point of a clutch.
