The expansion cylinder (1) has two double-sided, different volume working chambers, namely a small working chamber (8) and a large working chamber (11). The small working chamber is connected to an inlet line (E), which supplies gas pressure of an external gas supply. The large working chamber is connected to an outlet line (A), which departs expanded gas away from the cylinder. The gas is disposed in the small working chamber by an opening and closing overflow pipe (UE) through a switchable control unit (13).
