<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas concentration sensor configured to prevent temperature increase of a detection element wet with water when a temperature of the detection element is low at the cold start of an internal combustion engine, thereby preventing cracks of the detection element or a heating apparatus, and to provide a temperature increasing method of the sensor.SOLUTION: A gas concentration sensor includes: a detection element 5 for detecting concentration of a gas discharged from an engine 2; a heater 6 for heating the detection element 5 up to a predetermined operation temperature; and an element temperature sensor 7 for detecting the temperature of the detection element 5. A control apparatus 8 includes low-temperature temperature-increasing means C3, which corrects a dry determination value Qn, when a first temperature T1 of the detection element 5 detected by the element temperature sensor 7 is equal to or less than a predetermined element temperature determination value Tn, to a corrected dry determination value Qn', so that the detection element 5 is heated by the heater 6 later than normal temperature-increasing means C2, by use of the first temperature T1 and a second temperature T2 of the detection element 5, and causes the heater 6 to heat the detection element 5 when an estimated heat quantity Qx exceeds the corrected dry determination value Qn'.</p> |
